RINGWOOD HIGHLAND AND FLYBALL GAMES - Sunday 1st April 2012

We had a great competition at the “Ringwood Highland & Flyball Games”. As Eastside hosted the comp it was all hands on for the organising and setting up, and with a great team effort things ran smoothly, the weather was kind (sunny instead of the heavy rain we had in the past 2 years, yay!), and everyone had a great day.

For Eastside we had the Lightnings (Cindy, Max, Jack, Maddi, Riley) come second in Division 1, with a best time of 19.737seconds. The Spitfires (Roxy, Spark, Shae, Rippa, Maggie) came fourth in Division 1 with a best time of 21.301seconds. The Jets (Zack, Sundae, Renni, Moses, Oscar) came first in Division 3 with a best time of 22.365seconds. And the B52’s/Fluffies (Bungee, Gus, Pippa, Lochie, Shah, Tia) came second in Division 5 with a best time of 27.023seconds.

It was also pleasing to see the “Jagger” memorial Shield for the best percentage of clean runs on the day being won by the Lightnings.

Congratulations to “Zack” – handled by Jeanette Sleebs on gaining their FMX (Flyball Master Excellent) title, 700pts.

Huge thanks to everyone that put in to make this competition a success, with special thanks to Sue, the Ringwood Highland Games Organiser, and to Adrian (a retired Eastside member) for helping with the ring set up on Saturday.

We also thank our great sponsors for their contributions: Prime Petfood, Arbon Equipment, MegaPet Warehouse, Blackdog, Love ‘Em Treats, and AKT Trophy Centre.

Following our Bandanna day at last year’s Ringwood Highland Games, we were pleased this year to raise $320.00 to go to Peter Mac for Cancer Research. Thanks to all those who contributed in memory of friends and family affected by cancer.

We look forward to doing Flyball demonstrations at Como House on Saturday 15th April at 79 The Basin-Olinda Rd, The Basin. Come and check it out. Our next competition is at Hastings on Saturday/Sunday 28th and 29th April.

Image Eastside Flyers were very proud to have won 2nd Division at the 2012 National Flyball Competition in Canberra, February 2012. After 2 days of close racing we were tied for first place and won the run-off. We won the trophy for 1st place for the National competition, the Canberra 1st place trophy, and the Maggie award in memory of Josh's Maggie who would have normally run in that division. We were very proud too of the Spitfire's team which also had to run off for 1st place in the 4th division but just missed out. Great racing by all 4 teams at the National's Comp, and a great team effort.

If you've read anything at all about Flyball, you'll know it's fast, fun and adictive!

The Eastside Flyers consists of a group of flyball enthusiasts in the Eastern suburbs who have come together to basically have fun with their dogs and teach responsible dog ownership. We train at Yarra Hills Secondary College at 2 Old Hereford Rd, Mt Evelyn during the winter months on Saturday mornings (9am for beginners and 11am for team training), and Tuesday (beginner dogs) evenings at 6.00pm & Wednesday (advanced or team training) evenings at 6.00pm during daylight savings times.
