Ringwood Highland Games - Sunday 11th April 2010

What a great comp we had at Ringwood!  We had a bit of inclement weather early in the day causing some teams to withdraw due to the wet conditions, but it all came together beautifully in the end.

Thanks everyone for their help, especially the organising committee (Eric, Isobel, Anne C (timesheets) , Anne D, Narelle (prizes), Bronwyn (lunches), Bridget, Chris (catalogue), Lyn (raffle), Gayle (drinks), and Geoff (packing & trailer towing).

There were also lots of people that helped setting up rings and canopies on the Saturday, with thanks to Steve & Adrian for coordinating the setup. Thank you everybody! The best part was the group hug when it was all over.

For the record Eastside Flyers came 1st in division 1 (Jack, Buddy, Riley, Roxy, Rippa), 3rd in division 2 (Maggie, Oscar, Renni, Penny, Chilli), 2nd in division 5 (Morgan, Shah, Lochie, Pippa) & 3rd in division 7 (Bobby, Gus, Jack, Penny, Bungee, Shae). Congratulations to all, the dogs ran well.

Special thanks to our competition sponsors: Black Dog All Natural Dog Treats, Love’em Liver Treats, Fish & Feather Pet Shop, and Greenpet Pty Ltd.

Canberra Royal Flyball Competition
Sat/Sun 27/28 February 2010

Our trip as usual was wonderful with some of us staying with friends and some camping. Saturday was hot & dusty, Sunday a little cooler with the odd storm, rain & lightning. All dogs were exceptional with the weekend full of noise & excitement. Thanks to all who travelled and made the weekend a memorable one of lots of fun spending time with our furry creatures. The “Spitfires” (Rippa, Maggie, Oscar, Chilli, Roxy) came 2nd in Div 2 with five teams competing but “Norwest 3” were just a little too good for us in the end, but we gave them a run for their money as they beat us 3-2 in a couple of our races.

The “B52’s” (Shah, Bungee, Gus, Pippa, Lochie, Shae) came 6th out of 7 teams but came home with their heads held up high with a lot of close racing and most of their races were clear runs so lots of points after the weekend.  Congratulations to “Bungee” handled by Pam Atkinson on gaining their FMCh (Flyball Master Champion) title, 1,000pts.

Thanks again to the crew of  Eric, Isobel, Anne, Lyn, Pam, Sue, Ian, Rob, Narelle, Bronwyn, Andrew, Jeremy, Ben, Nicholas. Well done guys!!!

RACV Australia Day Flyball Celebration – Tues 26th January 2010
What an excellent day!  Humungous crowd at the RACV Family Day…over 80,000! And a lot of them spent the afternoon gathered around the flyball ring, 3 to 5 people deep, to watch the exciting racing. This continues to be one of the best flyball comps of the year!
Overall our Eastside Flyers teams did well though some of the newer dogs struggled towards the end of the day following a LOUD flyover by the F18s, the 21 (almost) gun salute which made the ground shake, and the 20 minute overhead performance of the Roulettes…as well as the hot conditions.

We all had a great day though, with a fantastic team effort to keep 4 teams (plus boxloaders, captains, ball-shaggers, stewards and general helpers) in the ring on time throughout a long day.  Thanks to Bronwyn and Gail for a scrummy lunch to keep us all going.

Special thanks to RACV and Nature’s Gift for the competition prizes, and to the RACV for hosting such a great event and having us share in a great family day out.

Wonthaggi - Bass Coast Agricultural Show - Flyball Comp
Saturday 9th January 2010

It seems to be getting better & better!  What a team we have, where we all just pitch in to help each other, whether it is cooking the lunch, putting up or pulling down the camp, packing trailers, etc. Thank you also to the captains (usually a thankless task), time scriber, and box-loaders. Some of us took the opportunity to run our dogs at the beach afterwards which was also certainly enjoyed by our four legged friends and capped off a great day. Thanks everyone!

The “Spifires” came 3rd in division 1, on a count back for 2nd place and created a record for the club with a new time of 19.8secs - the first time Eastside has broken 20 seconds.  The “Mustangs” came 2nd in division 2; the “B52’s came 3rd in division 4; and the “Hornets” came 2nd in division 5 - it came down to the last heat of the day to see who was going to be the winner and the “Hornets” got “pipped at the post” by one tenth of a second.  A great day’s racing in the hot conditions.

Dandy Drag Paw Power Comp Sat/Sun 14 & 15 November 2009

We are pleased to report that the Dandenong comp went well and that the Spitfires (Maggie, Oscar, Roxy, Riley, Shae, Josh) in Division 2 (six teams) & the Mustangs (Chilli, Shah, Bungee, Gus, Pippa, Max) in Division 4 (seven teams) both came in 3rd place. Only two title winners: “Pippa” FDX (Flyball Dog Excellent, 20pts) & “Gus” FDCh (Flyball Dog Champion, 50pts), both dogs handled by Narelle Foulkes with help from Rob.
The next scheduled competition at the Lilydale Show on Sunday 22nd November was unfortunately cancelled early Sunday morning due to the wet conditions…it was too dangerous to run the dogs in the slippery conditions. Apologies to anyone who came along to see the flyball comp…hope to see you there again next year.

Spitfires are fired up A hot day, good to chill out and
chat between races

Image  Congratulations everyone!  It was a great day and thanks to all who contributed. Dandenong in mid November will be the scene for the National competition  next year. It is an excellent venue with lush grass and BBQ atmosphere. There were BBQ breakfasts and lunches with flyballers everywhere including “Eastside” thanks to Lee & Bridget (special thanks!) and then of course the “beer o’clock” afterwards.

Sydney - National Flyball Championship - 17/18 October 2009
Sounds full on, but you can’t beat interstate flyball trips.  Nine people and twelve dogs headed off to Sydney, stopping overnight at Yass on the way up and back to make the trip more relaxed and social.  Our long distance travel includes regular stops for the dogs (and us) to stretch and wee.

The National competition was a wonderful experience for all of us, but especially for our newer members in Sue, Ian Narelle & Rob. We very much thank Anne & Steve Dengate for loaning us “Piper” to replace “Rippa” for the weekend as poor “Rippa” did his cruciate not long before the comp (he is recovering well!).  Although we raced out of our depth a little with the Spitfires (Piper, Maggie, Oscar & Chilli) we could hold our head up high coming 4th in Division 3.

The Mustangs (Roxy, Bungee, Shah, Josh, Gus & Pippa) also performed admirably racing their little hearts out for two days coming 3rd in division 8 and taking home a big bag of dog food each. A big thanks to Ian for lugging the boxes in & out all weekend, this was very much appreciated. Thanks all for a great 6 days away.

Special thanks too to Uncle Geoff – manager of the “Mooroolbark Doggy Creche” for taking care of the three dogs left behind including two that had recent operation and a sleepover for another two - without you Geoff we would not have been able to go, thank you!
Thanks to the whole gang for making this a very very memorable trip.

Frankston - Sunday 11th October 2009
What a great day it was at Frankston. We were really proud of the group as everyone pitched in to help where needed ie stewarding, pulling boxes in & out, arriving early to set up camp and no complaints from anyone; thanks also to the captains of the teams. The “Hornets” (Neska/Ellenor, Shae/Bronwyn, Riley/Lee, Penny/Catherine, Gracie/Faye) were exceptional as all but Neska were in their first competition and they did exceptionally well (in fact better than our regular teams!).

Yarram - Best Friends Holiday Retreat Comp October 3, 2009
The Yarram competition is probably one of the best competitions to go to outside of Melbourne. The comp is held about a 3hr drive from Melbourne in the beautiful Tarra Valley, about 15min drive from Yarram in South Gippsland. The Tarra Valley is situated in a rain forest with it's abundance of wildlife.

Eastside Flyers had 3 teams travel to the competition with mixed success as we had several dogs withdraw due to sickness or injury before the comp resulting in a reshuffle of our teams and therefore less competitive in their divisions.  Despite not having much chance of winning the teams all had fun throughout the day.
Two new dogs racing for the first time received their first title of Flyball Dog (FD) 5pts: congratulations to "Gus" (handlers Narelle and Robert) & "Shae" (Bronwyn & family). Congratulations also to "Renni" for gaining his Flyball Dog Champion (FDCh) title 50pts. Well done Mark!  A huge congratulations to "Pippa" handled by Narelle & Rob on coming away with 1 title point gained at the end of the day - this took a bit of hard work as Pippa got totally distracted in her first race due to treats dropped on the ground during the previous race, but we got there in the finish, well done!

The BBQ on Saturday night was excellent with lots of chatter, games, drinking (hmmm…sore heads the next day?) and a roasty open fire. Thanks to everyone for making this a very memorable weekend (including the box putter inners & outers, shaggers, stewards, and general helpers).  For the record the "Spitfires" came 3rd, "Mustangs" 6th, "B52's" 3rd.

RINGWOOD HIGHLAND AND FLYBALL GAMES – Sunday 5th April 2009

Amid the sounds of the bagpipes…great flyball racing, great lunch, great raffle, great help, great doggy fun...though a big soggy in the afternoon.

Our teams went well with the Spitfires (Rippa, Maggie, Oscar, Chilli, Piper) coming 3rd of 7 teams in Division 1; the Mutangs (Roxy, Jack, Morgan, Max, Buddy) coming 1st of 7 teams in Division 3; and the B52s (Renni, Neska, Shah, Bobby, Bungee, Cooper) coming 2nd of 4 teams in Division 4, on a count back for first place.  Great box loading, as usual, by Sue and Bronwyn - we may need sponsorship from Thoaties to keep Sue's voice going.

A special HUGE thanks to the Metha family on their unbelievable ministry to our interiors with a yummy lunch spread!!!

Congratulations to Shah handled by Anne Coleman on gaining their FDCh (Flyball Dog Champion) title, 50pts. Renni handled by Mark Jamieson is just 1 point off his FDCh, and Bobby handled by Chris Sproson needs just 1 point for his FDX (Flyball Dog Excellent) title, 20pts.

Next Flyball stop is the Hastings Flyball Comp on Saturday/Sunday 18th/19th April.

Canberra Royal Show flyball comp  - Sat/Sun 28th February & 1st March

Just like to say that apart from being hot and dusty during the weekend that the Canberra Royal Show went off fantastically well.  Thanks to Kylie and her team from "Companion Dog Club" as the competition organisers. Appreciation also to those who donated their dog food winnings to the dog shelters here in Victoria for the dogs that have been affected by the bushfires.

Our team the "Spitfires" (Rippa, Maggie, Oscar, Chilli, Roxy and Shah) competed over the 2 day competition to come 1st in Division 3.  Congratulations to Eric and Oscar who achieved their FDGCh Title (Flyball Dog Grand Champion) - 2,000 points.  This dog has had two cruciate ligament operations, so not a bad effort!

Thanks to the other teams for assistance when we needed a hand, especially to Les Scott from Southern Cross in Sydney for being our boxloader and to Wayne Stroop from Parra Dog Obedience Club in Adelaide for running Oscar.

With the hot and dusty weather we enjoyed the use of the swimming pool where we stayed with flyball friends in Canberra…the dogs had a ball…literally!  A great time had by all!

Berwick Highland Games – Sunday 8th February 2009

We entered two teams at Berwick on Sunday and both came away undefeated. They were captained beautifully by Ellenor (Spitfires) & Anne C (Mustangs).

"Spitfires" (Rippa, Maggie, Piper, Chilli, Max & Gus) came 1st in Division 2 & "Mustangs" (Morgan, Bungee, Lochie, Roxy, Renni & Neska) were 1st in Division 4. Congratulations to both teams. Special thanks to Sue for box-loading both teams; hope your voice is recovering!

Congratulations to "Renni" handled by Mark Jamieson on gaining their FDX (Flyball Dog Excellent, 20pts) title, and "Piper" handled by Steve Dengate on gaining their AFCh (Australian Flyball Champion, 150pts).  Little "Gus" handled by Narelle Foulkes, also did really well on their first competition…looking forward to more!

DANDENONG FLYBALL COMP - Sat/Sun 8th & 9th November
The Dandenong 2-day flyball competition would have to be one of the best comps we have experienced – thanks to Berwick for hosting such a well organized comp.

The 'Spitfires' (Rippa, Maggie, Oscar & Chilli) never missed a beat.  Little Roxy raced in one heat on Sunday and did really well too. We came second in Division 2, winning 5 out of our 9 races for the weekend.  We also recorded our fastest time ever of 20.572seconds – beating our previous best time by a full 1 second.

Thank you to all that assisted with the exceptional running of our team, especially Jenny & Ian from Hastings and Kim from Keilor, and to Sue our newest member who box loaded on Saturday.

"RINGWOOD HIGHLAND & FLYBALL GAMES" A GREAT SUCCESS!
Thanks to all those who contributed to a great day of Flyball at the Ringwood Highland Games, especially to our sponsors Eagle Pack for their great food for team prizes.

All the dogs as usual ran exceptionally well - Eastside Flyers came 3rd in Division 2 (best time of 21.504 seconds), 4th in Division 4 (best time of 25.852 seconds) and 2nd in Division 5 (best time of 24.233 - oops, break out). Special congratulations go to Maggie Mae, handled by Anne Coleman, who gained their Onyx Award title with 1300 points, and to Bella, handled by Russell Robinson, who gained their first flyball title of FD with 5 points. This was Bella's first flyball competition and she couldn't have raced any better at her first comp!

It was also fantastic to welcome the Tassie Flying Paws – great to have a team travel up from Tasmania to compete and we look forward to journeying south sometime soon.

Yarram - Best Friends Holiday Retreat Flyball Comp - Saturday 29 September 2007

The comp at Yarram was under less favourable conditions...rain and gale force gusts of wind put the comp under doubt for a few hours on Saturday morning but teams decided to give it a go and withdraw dogs/teams if the conditions deteriorated and became too slippery for safe racing.  While the weather did improve somewhat in the afternoon to allow the days racing, the huge gusts of wind scored a victim...our 2 shelters were swept up, tossed upside down and dumped in the creek...a review of the torn canapies and twisted metal framework revealed an expensive write-off off our shelters ...doh!  Apart from this somewhat depressing end to the day we still had a good time (even the campers survived but maybe with the view to checking out cabins and caravans for next year's event!).

Apart from all that drama we had a good comp ending up 2nd in Division 2 and 4th in Division 4. Congratulations to Maggie Mae and Anne Coleman for gaining their Flyball Master Champion (FMCh) Title of 1,000 points.

Canberra Pet Expo - Sat/Sun 22nd & 23rd September 2007

We came 1st in Division 2 at Canberra and are very proud of our 4 legged friends - Rippa, Maggie, Oscar and Bungee raced for 2 days over 12" (much higher than their usual jump height) and performed admirably.  Again we appreciated the help of the other teams for their help in running extra dogs and box loading (special thanks to Chris for box loading for the whole weekend and to Verdelle and David for running Oscar).

Congratulations to Rippa for gaining his Flyball Master (FM) Title of 400 points.

Adelaide Royal Show, Flyball Comp - Saturday 15 September 2007

We came 3rd in Adelaide after losing 2nd place on a countback...but we all still had a ball on our trip and didn't care if we came 1st, 2nd, or 3rd...We run for fun! This has been one of the best and most friendly/relaxed comps we have been to, so hopefully a few more will join us there next year.

Well done to our team of Anne C (Josh and Maggie), Pam (Bungee), Noella (Russha), and Eric (Oscar and Rippa).

We also appreciated all the help that the other teams at Adelaide gave us as we needed to recruit a box loader for the day and someone to help run Oscar for several of the races.  People from SA Para and FlyDovers and VIC Keilor stepped in enthusiastically to help us out...thanks to all of you!

Huge congratulations to Josh and Oscar on achieving their Onyx Award Titles (1,300 points) !!!

Albury Border Challenge Flyball Comp - 21 July 2007

A very chilly start to a flyball competition(-2 degrees!) but all dogs and
handlers had an excellent day (even though it was warmer outside in the
sun than in the under cover pavillion).

We came 3rd in Division 3, winning 4 races out of 9.  We took 6 dogs (Rippa,
Oscar, Maggie, Josh, Russha, and Bungee) and 4 handlers (Eric, Anne C,
Noela, and Pam)...this meant that we relied on the goodwill of the other
competing teams to lend us a Box Loader and Ball Shagger (thanks David
and Patrick!!) and assistance from Albury to help us cover our stewarding.
We really appreciated the help! Thanks everyone. Well done as well to
Albury for their many hours of hard work in ensuring a firm (undusty)
running surface.  We look forward to next year's event.

Congratulations to Noela and Russha on gaining their next flyball title,
Flyball Master (400 points).  Well done!

GEELONG, 12 MAY 2007

We had an excellent day once again at the Geelong Competition on Saturday.  We came 3rd in Division 1 (Rippa, Maggie Mae, Oscar, Chilli, Cooper and Gemma), 4th in Division 3 (Josh, Jack, Neska, Piper, and Brocky), and 1st in Division 4 (Ginger, Bungee, Lochie, Russha, and Penny).

A big congratulation to Geoff and Brocky on gaining their FD (Flyball Dog) title at 5 points.  Brocky is a 9 year old Golden Retriever who entered his first competition at Geelong, although he has done a couple of demo's. Well done Geoff and Brocky!!! Anne reckons he is retired now, but we will believe it when we see it.

Also well done to Piper and Gemma at their first competition.  Piper got 4 points, so just one more point for her FD title.  For most of the dy Gemma just did recalls for the experience - she did one heat but got a bit of stagefright.  Keep up the good work guys!

RINGWOOD HIGHLAND GAMES, MARCH 2007

Lovely sunshine and the sound of bagpipes greeted us for the 2007 Ringwood
Highland Games. With 3 teams entered it was a very full-on comp for everyone,
but we got through the day and were very pleased with how the day went.
Thanks to everyone for a great team effort!!!  Our teams came:

3rd in Division 1 - "Spitfires" (Rippa, Maggie, Cooper, Morgan)
2nd in Division 4 - "B52's" (Josh, Oscar, Jack, Lochie, Neska)
3rd in Division 4 - "Mustangs" (Chilli, Russha, Ginger, Bungee, Penny).
Congratulations to "Jack" handled by Adrian Brown for gaining their FMCh
(Flyball Master Champion) title after gaining 1,000 points.

RACV AUSTRALIA DAY FLYBALL COMP, JANUARY 2007

We had a great competition at the RACV Australia Day Celebration, with great crowds, and great weather (a lovely change from the last two years when it got to 40C. We won Division 2 with the Spitfires and came 3rd in division 4 iafter a three way countback for first place (doh! missed by "that" much). This competition has to be one of the best on the flyball calendar and we look forward to working with the RACV again in 2008.

Huge crowds enjoyed the excitement of the
flyball racing..nearly as much as the dogs did.

WONTHAGGI FLYBALL COMP, JANUARY 2007

Another great competition at Wonthaggi, especially for those who were able to take it easy the next day at the nearby beach.  We came 4th in Division 1 with the Spitfires (Rippa, Maggie Mae, Chilli and Morgan), and 2nd in Division 2 with Ginger, Lochie, Bungee, Russha, Penny, and William).

We enjoyed the relaxing moments.
